EIP-1559 introduced a dynamic base fee that adjusts per block. It is burned (not paid to miners) and changes based on how full the previous block was.
What is the priority fee?
Also called a "tip", this goes directly to the validator. Higher tips incentivise faster inclusion. Most wallets handle this automatically.

The maximum you're willing to pay per gas unit. You're charged baseFee + tip, never more than maxFee. Any unspent amount is refunded.
