When you open a leveraged position or borrow against collateral, the protocol sets a price at which your position is forcibly closed. If the asset price reaches this level, a liquidator repays your debt and takes your collateral — often at a penalty.
How does health factor work?
Health Factor = (Collateral × Liquidation Threshold) ÷ Debt. A HF above 1 means your position is safe. When HF drops to 1, liquidation triggers. HF of 2 or above is considered comfortable; below 1.2 is high risk.
Tips to avoid liquidation
Use lower leverage to give your position more room. Top up collateral if prices move against you. Set price alerts near your liquidation level. Keep health factor above 1.5. Avoid over-borrowing during high-volatility periods.
