BNB. Every transaction fee on BNB Smart Chain is paid in native BNB, no matter which BEP-20 token — including BUSD or other stablecoins — the transaction involves.
No. BNB Chain prices gas through the legacy eth_gasPrice model: full nodes quote a single gas price with no burning base fee and no separate priority-fee tip, unlike Ethereum and most of its rollups since 2021.
Because there's no per-block base-fee adjustment forcing it up and down the way there is on Ethereum. The quoted price is closer to a flat market rate that only shifts when demand stays elevated for a stretch, rather than reacting block by block.
None — they're the same network. Binance Smart Chain was renamed BNB Smart Chain, under the umbrella brand BNB Chain, in 2022. Older tools and docs that still say BSC are referring to this chain.
Functionally, yes — BEP-20 is BNB Chain's token standard and mirrors ERC-20 closely enough that most Ethereum tooling works with it unmodified. The two live on different chains, though, so a BEP-20 address that looks identical to an ERC-20 one will not receive funds sent on the wrong network.
No. opBNB is a separate Layer 2 built on top of BNB Chain aimed at higher throughput and lower fees than the base chain. It runs its own gas market; this tracker covers BNB Smart Chain (BNB Chain) mainnet.
21 active validators produce blocks at any time, elected each epoch from a larger pool of BNB stakers under the chain's Proof of Staked Authority system. That smaller, rotating set is part of why block times and fees stay low and predictable.
No. This page reads public on-chain fee data through a public RPC endpoint. There is no sign-up, no wallet connection, and nothing about you is stored.

Try ZestHow does BNB Chain gas work?
BNB Smart Chain uses a Delegated Proof-of-Stake consensus with 21 active validators. Gas fees are paid in BNB. Unlike Ethereum, BSC has historically used a simpler gas pricing model, though it has implemented some EIP-1559 concepts over time.
Why is BNB Chain cheap?
BSC achieves low fees by having a smaller, permissioned validator set and a 3-second block time. This increases throughput significantly compared to Ethereum, spreading transaction costs across many more blocks per day.
What is BEP-20?
BEP-20 is the BNB Smart Chain token standard, functionally identical to ERC-20 on Ethereum. All major EVM tools and wallets support BEP-20 tokens, and most Ethereum DeFi protocols have deployed compatible versions on BSC.
BNB Smart Chain is not a rollup settling to Ethereum the way Arbitrum or Base are — it is its own independent, EVM-compatible Layer 1, secured by a Proof of Staked Authority system where 21 active validators, elected each epoch from a larger pool of BNB stakers, take turns producing blocks. There is no L1 data-posting fee layered on top of what you pay; the number this tracker shows is the whole cost.
Fees are paid in BNB, and BSC does not use Ethereum's EIP-1559 mechanism. There is no base fee that burns and resets with every block, and no separate priority-fee tip market. Instead, every full node exposes a single gas price through the eth_gasPrice RPC method — the same approach Ethereum itself used before its 2021 London upgrade. This tracker reads that live price and builds three tiers around it: a discount for a transfer you don't mind waiting on, the going rate for normal inclusion, and a premium for getting into a contested block faster.
What you actually pay is still gas price multiplied by gas units consumed, and gas units work exactly as they do on Ethereum — a plain BNB transfer costs 21,000 gas, while a swap or contract call costs more depending on what it touches. A roughly 3-second block time and a block gas limit set well above Ethereum's are what keep the per-transaction price low even during busy periods.
Because there is no automatic base-fee adjustment doing the work, BNB Chain's gas price moves more slowly and less dramatically than Ethereum's — but it isn't fixed.
Most BNB Chain gas mistakes come from carrying over habits from Ethereum or from mixing up look-alike networks and addresses.
